Clutch bleeding tips needed, 6spd 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just done an engine swap from BMM 8v TDi too a BKD 16v. Obviously the gearbox had to come out in so reluctantly disconnecting the hydraulic line to the clutch.

I swapped the flywheel and clutch pack over to the replacement engine. The motor is in the car and running (was a lot of work to get it to that point).

I've been trying to bleed the clutch with an air powered bleeder, but I can only get half a pedal re pressure. Either i re assembled the clutch wrong ( this is it prior to the box goin back on btw https://gyazo.com/df211845bb4d9baf10306e4ae1454530 ) or I have an elusive bubble in the slave.

I have tried to bleed with clutch pedal down/up/midway and even pump the pedal with the valve open on the gearbox with the bleeder attached full of fluid to try and move this "bubble" but to no avail atm.

All I got is half a pedal of pressure and I can't grab a gear yet (car is on 4 axle stands as it's 4wd)

Anyone managed to do this bleed after getting stuck like myself ? I thought the engine swap was the hard bit but seems I'm stuck with the clutch so I can't test drive it with the new engine to see what possible fault codes come up on vcds.

Thanks in advance.

Following needing about with the bleeding. I looked up my clutch, it's the self adjusting type.

Appears the gearbox will have to come out again as the clutch self adjusted when I un bolted it from the flywheel without using the correct tool

What actually self-adjusted?

All the self-adjusting clutches I have dealt with "adjust" at the slave cylinder.

Have you bled it up at the master cylinder?

Is that bleeder pulling fluid through th esystem or pushing it back towards the slave?

The inside of the pressure plate basically is on sprung wedges so as the clutch wears it self adjusts . So dont just go removing the pressure plate (as i blissfully unaware did) on a self adjusting clutch without the correct tool as it will release all the self adjusting part.

Its all fixed now as i pulled the box back out and reset the pressure plate. I actually popped the new engine back out and tidied up all the spliced into wiring looms.  The BMM 8v engine swap to BKD 16v works too even with the 4wd :)
