Boot wont open fully?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ive searched for an answer but cannot find anyone with the same issue as Im having.

The boot on my VRS pops open when using the remote or the boot button but seems to be catching on something and will not open more than an inch.

It gives a solid clunk when I put my fingers under the lip of the boot and try to open it more.

Ive had a look inside while operating the remote and there seems to be a lever that spins around, pushing on another part.

To me it seems mechanical, not electrical like all of the other threads I have read.

Has anyone got any ideas what it may be, and how I could fixe it?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

There is a spring-loaded plunger that pops the lid open past the catch. Give it a push to check if it still has a firm spring action...

Thanks for the reply & pic,

The spring plunger id fine. Ive had another look and the issue seems to be the parts on the left side.

I think the part that pushes the orange release lever in the bootlid has possibly come away from something as it seems to be flapping around, or not has enough strength to operate the lever?

Does that make sense?

Cheer,

Rob

Yeah the white bit is the solenoid/motor that pushes the lever. It might be faulty or some other part of the lever mechanism might be stiff or not working correctly.

If you manually fully open the boot does it stay open on its own? I mention this  because the two gas struts add to the opening force. Also over time I have noticed  that the rubber seal can also stick to the inner side of the hatch,if the boot if not opened very often. I use silicon spray, after cleaning them with Jizer on a cloth on the rubber every few months.

The solenoid seems to be working ok, I'll have to remove more boot trim at the weekend and see if anything has come off the mechanism.

The boot stays open fine, thanks for the thought mate.

Cheers, Rob

Try opening it using the orange lever from inside the boot. See if it opens OK then.

Yep, thats how Im opening it atm mate.

It seems like the part that moves the orange lever is only partially moving it and is very sloppy so I can wiggle it around easily. It just happened out of the blue yesterday.

In your first bit its the upside down J shaped part I think, I think the orange lever sits in it

Ah, OK.

My Fabia has both electric opening and a manual lever next to the drivers' seat to open it by cable but I know some Fabias don't have the manual release.

No, mine doesnt, its a shame really.

Thanks for your input, I will have a look again at the weekend and update then.

Cheers,

Rob

No probs :)

Wel,

Ive fixed it, and this may help others as i do see a few threads with a similar problem.

In the centre of the boot, under the removable trim there is a curved bit of metal centrally fixed with a pin type thing. This rotates via a solenoid (I think) when you try to open the boot and it moves the orange plastic covered bit in the tail-lift, the bit that you manually move if you have to lean into the boot via the pushed forward rear seats if your boot doesnt open.

after 8 months I noticed that the black metal part in the book seemed bent up making it slide off of the orange part when rotating so a couple of gentle taps down with a hammer and I now have a fully operational boot again!

Just thought I'd let you all know incase any of you have a similar problem and cannot locate the reason still.

Cheers,

Rob
