Led headlights intermittent fault

Featured Replies

I recently had to replace the led unit on my 2014 superb because it was intermittently dimming until it stopped working all together. The new unit is displaying the same fault, Has anyone heard of any known issues with led headlights on this model

The MkII Superb was never fitted with LED headlights from the factory, just halogens or bi-xenon's.

Do you know which you have?

Pretty sure that's a bi-xenon headlight with an LED daytime running light :)

Which bit is failing? If it's the LED DRL, you might want to check the LED driver is working correctly.

@langers2k is correct - the part number in your photo is for the Bi-xenon headlight. The LED reference refers to the fact it is the part that has an integrated LED DRL.   It is the same as the headlight unit fitted to my 2014 Superb 2 estate facelift car (which is what your car is).

In any case, the answer to what @silver1011 asked is definitely that you have the bi-xenon headlight units.

When you say that the LED was failing - do you mean just the daytime running lights (DRL) part of the headlight? Is the part in your second picture the part that was replaced?

I have heard of the Skoda Octavia MK 2 having problems with its LED DRL's but I havent heard about issues on the Superb (like all Xenons - you do hear of flickering and dying on the main headlights and that is usually a ballast issue - or of "pink/purple" light from the bulbs which usually means it is bulb replacement time).

Its the dip beam just flashes on and off but only on the drivers side, im going to book it in i think

The dipped beam is bi-xenon, not LED.

If a xenon bulb is flickering on and off it can be due to a number of reasons, a faulty connection, a faulty bulb or a faulty ballast/ignitor/AFS component.

Presumably you've also got the 'blown bulb' warning light on the dash?

Not now, i did have but it was reset when the bulb was replaced

All this extra information! 😂

So the same bulb was replaced recently? By whom?

Why was the bulb replaced?

Chances are whoever changed the bulb disturbed some of the wiring / connectors, used a non-approved / out-of-spec/defective xenon bulb etc.

It was replaced by an excellent garage with an approved Skoda part because the other one failed.

I'd be taking it back to the 'excellent garage' for them to take another look. It is rare for xenon bulbs to fail, and when they do they often fail in pairs, or at least within a short space of time from each other.

How long since they've changed the bulb has it been before this issue started?

Its been this way since not long after, the garage think its the transformer
