Was looking to see if anyone is having a similar issue to me with a 2019 Kodiaq 1.5 TSI Manual.

Since I collected the Kodiaq in February the EPC light has come on approx 4/5. Each time it came on was just after I dropped my kids to school in the morning after approx 7KM. It literially happens on the same stretch of road. The first time it happened I turned off the engine for a few minutes and when I turned it back on the EPC light came on again and then a warning message appeared to say stop the engine as it was overheating. I called road side assist and they cleared the EPC fault and it was fine after that. Then it happened again a few weeks later. This time after the overheating warning appeared the car would not go over 2,000 RPM. This time after I turned off the engine for a few minutes and then back on it cleared the EPC fault and all was ok. Just worrying that the EPC light is appearing after approx 7KM. Is this a known fault with the car? Do I need a software update etc?

If you Google it, you'll find that there can be several things that would cause your EPC light to illuminate, including faulty sensors. 

Your car isn't very old and is under guarantee, take it to your dealer to get fixed. If you have an actual problem with the car, then long term, constant resetting of the warning light is just hiding that problem which could get worse with time.

A quick search on here doesn't indicate that this is a common problem but it was mentioned in 2009.

It needs looking at properly.

 

The fact you've already had Skoda Assist out, and that they've witnessed, acknowledged and cleared the EPC light is enough to warrant getting booked in with your local dealer.

 

Book the car in, drop it off and ask them to call you when it's fixed, something clearly isn't right. Unfortunately modern cars are much more complex than they used to be. These things happen. Don;t worry if the light isn't on when you drop the car off, ask your dealer to contact Skoda Assist to ask for their report.

 

Too many dealers pedal out the "wait until it gets worse and then bring it back" or "as the light isn't currently on there isn't anything we can do". This is all untrue.

I've just had the same issue, Kodiaq 1.5 TSI Auto, 69 plate,  from new, <12 months < 9k miles.  Driving at 30 on a normal road. EPC light came on, at around the same time as ABS, tyre pressure, traction control all came on. Car went into limp mode, so I pulled in to check if I had a puncture or something fallen off and broken a sensor. Nothing amiss, but then the car won't restart. Skoda Assist came out and couldn't fix it, so its now off to the garage for assessment.

 

This is the second time I've had this, the first time it happened (about 6 months ago),it wouldn't restart, but then when skoda assist came out and it just started up fine! I felt like an idiot, especially when the mechanic ran the diagnostic and found "absolutely no record of any failure" - but when a car cuts out and won't restart things aint right are they!?? This time, as it won't start, even for the mechanic, its in the garage now....

 

Skoda assist really good, but this is not what I want when I buy a car from new. I had a Hyundai Santa Fe before, which worked perfectly for 3 years. Had a Jeep GRand Cherokee before that, I dare say that is still driving well 100k miles and more... Had electric problems with a Renault LAguna - but that was once and the car was 8 years old. 

 

Posting this as I always take comfort in others having the same problem... I will endeavour to report back when I get the results from garage.

Just to feed-back on what I was told. Apparently the cabling between the gearbox central console (Where the "mode" buttons and other functions are kept) and the Computer was installed too short / had "come away" somewhere "near the engine" and their hunch was ALSO that a small animal might have chewed through it. I must say, after 5 days of them having the car, I had gone beyond anger, so I just laughed at them. This sounded like the kind of excuse someone gives when they don't know what the hell happened and they have to give  a reason as to why the computer shut down and won't allow the car to move.

 

So, to remedy, they changed the battery and the cabling and I'm all fine since (200 miles driven).

 

It took them 5 days with the car and " a whole day of diagnostics" to find this problem, so either Skoda really don't know and "switching it off and on again" and the replacement batter/cabling did the trick, or I am missing something here?

 

We live in the city and granted, didn't drive at all much during lock-down, but I think that the "small animal" idea was ridiculous. Sure, bypass the bins and vegetation and climb into the recess of that particular Skoda Kodiaq and get right inside the gearbox to do some wire-chewing!

 

Thoughts welcome on what it might have been.

 

Finally, I am taking it to my host dealership for a "pre-1 year anniversary" warranty check as this is the second time the electrics / computer have failed me. Any ideas what they will say when I ask for that check? (i.e. I don;t want a "after 1 year anniversary" service to throw up problems that are conveniently not covered by 1 year warranty).

I work at a dealers, you may be surprised at how many rodents we see 

 

Just last week one of the techs dropped an undertray to find a very large decomposed rat on it

 

I've seen the remains of a mouse wedged into a caliper too, numerous engine bay nests

Thank you Brun. Skoda's must have very tasty cabling then!! In 25+ years of car ownership (others were non-skoda's), never had this happen before! Must be a bit of a shock seeing a decomposing mouse in a caliper!  

 

In terms of being sorted, the EPC light and "complete electric shut down" has happened twice now. First time (6 months ago) it restarted after a while, second time  it didn't restart and we are told it was the cabling issue. I would rather not have this happen at all though on a <12 month old car. I don't think the "rodent nibbles" can be the cause of both failures 6 months apart can it?

 

Hopefully I won't be revisiting this problem, but as I said, the reason for posting is so others who might have it can see they are not alone/what the outcome was.

Completely unrelated to mice but yes you see all sorts of things, such as this customer who complained of poor brakes 🤣

Yes that really is the entire surface of the disc worn down lol

The noise on braking must have been incredible!!

I have the same EPC signal on my Kodiaq 1.5TSI 69 plate. The forum has been helpful as the dealer Marshalls is evasive usually. We bought this at 11 months and frankly wish we hadn't, the electrics have been a problem since the start. Let's see what they say this time.
