Front Brake Discs and Pads

Featured Replies

Hi guys what the best front discs and pads from let’s say euro car parts as they have 50% off?

model 2016 SEL Superb 150 TDI 18” wheels.

A lot of owners criticise the genuine Skoda discs, due to premature corrosion.

I bought a set recently from Eurocarparts, and went for the higher priced option (Brembo).

They weren't any better, and even with one of Eurocarparts many discount codes they only worked out slightly cheaper than the genuine parts in the end.

Bought Pagids from ECP, not immune to rust on the hubs, so would try the Brembos.

The Brembo's are no better, see my post directly above yours.

In that case ATE would be worth a try.

Take a look at MTec discs; they can be ordered with a black, gold or silver coating.  Granted this coating will wear from the braking surface but the edges and bell housing should persist and remain rust free.  My car is barely 18 months old with 15k on the clock and everything behind the alloys looks like it's been under the sea for a few decades.

My original rear brake discs and pads were trashed after 20k miles. I had a look at ECP’s offerings but in the end bought Delphi from a local motor factors (Autosave, Aberdeen) which were considerably cheaper than the cheapest ECP offering. So far they have done 22k miles and have no scoring and no significant wear lip. Massively better than the OEM ones!

i have replaced to coated ones from Otto Zimmermann

What's the protocol when still inside warranty period. Would Skoda only be looking for OEM parts to validate any warranty issues with the braking system?

from Škoda you can get same OEM crap

but VW thinks Škoda's owners have got too much

I did wonder about that but was advised it would only be an issue if directly related to the problem. So obviously, if the new discs or pads had a problem, you couldn’t expect Skoda to cover it. But if say there was a problem with the ABS module, it couldn’t be shown that that was in any way related to after market brake discs or pads. In any case, warranty issues with the braking system are surely pretty rare?

I thought it a risk worth taking to reduce the cost of the new discs and pads to less than half what Skoda dealer wanted for the job.
