electric windows

Featured Replies

2011 Fabia estate, diesel. two front windows are electric, rear windows are not. drivers console for two front.

Drivers console does not open or close either front window.

passenger button operates passenger window.

Unlocking the car by key and holding the key in the lock does not open or close the windows.

Guessing at console switch or connection to the switch?

Is that right or barking?

Is WD40 worth trying after stripping?

Rear wiper does not work either. Is it the same as the Octavia inasmuch as the washer feeds through the gear box and causes it to seize?

Does the rear wiper sound as though it is trying to move? If not, then it’s likely a faulty connection.

As as an extra bit of diagnosis, check that the electric mirrors still work.

It could well be the window switch/connections as you say but it could also be breakages in the wiring loom that goes into the door. These wires flex and over time can become brittle.

Thanks for the advice.

The mirrors are manual.

There is nothing from the rear wiper so I'll check connections.

...Wires in the door loom bellow are a major thing that causes electric mirrors, windows, central locking etc to fail so apart from fuses, should be the first port of call for leccie-gremlins!

Thanks for your help.

I took the door card off, and the wiring seems undamaged.

Phoned an auto electrician and described the problem, he said window switch.

£30  from main dealers.

Thanks, it is not the switch. Took the door card off.

Water on the door lock mechanism and its connection block. WD40 made no difference. Contact pins are ok, not corroded.

The central locking locks the door after 30 seconds.

So the water on the door lock mechanism has caused the problem, which requires replacing or stripping and drying out?

I am joining the club of broken looms, three wires broken and another has the insulation cut so the copper wire can be seen. It was not clear to see the broken wires until I removed the large connector.

From other posts I read that it is advisable to drill out the three speaker rivets with a 6mm drill, if you do that how do you repair the speaker mounting, buy a pop rivet gun?

....Or short, self tapping screws if you can find something suitable.
