Hi I've had this car car for one year ear and have given this car service up-to-date I don't think this car's got any warranty left but I've been getting problems with this car first problem was leaking water and oil so I got what oil filter housing and coolant housing changed now now all your week after the coil spring light flashes on and I've got an engine management light that comes on I got it checked from a local garage by putting the computer on and they are telling me me it's nothing to do with coil springs but it's to do with the turbo chip that's on top of the turbo and for me to get that sorted out it's expensive va because the chip cannot be removed the whole turbo has to be removed I do not understand what to do do can somebody please shed some light onto this thank you

The coil light is not related to coil springs, it is actually the glow plug light. Many owners who are new to diesel cars are unaware that you should wait for the glow plug light to go out when cold starting the car because they don’t know what it means. The glow plugs basically prime the engine for cold starting.

However, on the gauge clusters used by the Fabia and other VAG cars, the glow plug light flashing indicates an issue with things to do with engine control.

A common one for the smaller TDICR engines like the one in the Greenline II is the EGR valve, used to help reduce emissions. This would cause the flashing glow plug light and engine management light, as well as often putting the car into limp mode.

For or the benefit of diagnosis, are there any other symptoms?

Ps. Is this local garage trustworthy in your opinion?

The windows door lock and mirrors are likely caused by a damaged wiring loom, which is a separate job, but not an uncommon one. An auto electrician would sort that for you.

At this point then, it’s time to work out the meaning of these lights. There are lots of cheap OBD readers out there, that just plug in and connect to an app on your smartphone, to allow you view the fault codes. You can then find out a concise and (usually) accurate description that is much more informative.

The only one I can vouch for is Carista, which cost me £15.99 from amazon. The smartphone app is available for free on android and iOS, but I think it’s a tenner for a weeks access to the diagnosis feature. It also has some customisation options like one touch unlocking and audible locking confirmation. There are other ones that people have success with as well, and I think the Carista app does work with non-Carista adapters, but I’m not sure which ones. I think for £15 it’s a worthwhile investment because it stops you from barking up the wrong tree.

Please note that Carista can’t read or display as detailed fault codes as a specialised reader, but for an engine warning light it tends to be good enough.

It just plugs into the OBD port which is behind a panel at the bottom of the dashboard on the drivers side, next to the fuses.

...Hi, sorry if I misunderstood but, you say you have the egr but have yet to fit it. You then say one of the lights has stopped flashing but not the other. This may well be as you have yet to fit the part. Unless that is, I mis-read your thread.
