Afternoon guys and gals,

 

Right have been been a long time lurker on here after owning my trusty mk1 octavia estate tdi as my noble work horse for a few years and it has never faulted me until recently.

 

Basically interior lights, radio, climate control, dash lights, window switches don’t seem to light up when headlight switch has been turned on (headlights work fine) have checked fuses and everything seems ok, have pulled dimmer switch (made sure it’s turned up)  and headlight switch out and checked connectors but they seem all ok as-well. 

 

The annoying thing is that they will randomly work every so often.

 

any ideas guys on what to look for or any advice at all?

 

have tried searching but couldn’t seem to find any concrete answers

Have you tried another dimmer switch, or checked that the old one is stepping down the output by a multimeter at all?. I know you said you pulled it, but you do not say if you carried out any tests at all.

 

Also check the fuse for the circuit for hairline defects rather than just blown or not, as the fuse may be in a bad state but has not blown yet. I would substitute a new one anyway to rule it out, as it is a cheap fix to try.

Kentphil1, I must admit I haven’t done any checks with a multi meter, but will definitely check again, and I will double check the fuse again, as I literally just had a glance and didn’t notice anything straight away. I do have a spare dimmer switch so will try that also.
