What to drive after you’ve driven VRS ?

Featured Replies

I’ve been happily driving my Octy  vrs mk1 estate for the last 13 yrs / 125000 miles

Now looking to change to something newer and with a different ride ( higher off the ground as my bad back needs diff seat) ( & don’t  have the cash for a newer vrs)

Any suggestions as to what to drive after an Octy vrs that’s not going to be disappointing?Another model Octavia ?  Another Skoda - are the newer models as reliable as the older ones ?
Which would be best ?

All yr advice much appreciated

thanks

How about another MK1 vRS?

Mine will be up for sale shortly. 64k, garaged, unmolested, practically like new.....and in Surrey.

If you really liked your mk1 estate (and why wouldn't you?👍) why not consider a Mk2 or Mk2 FL estate but in 4x4 or scout form to give that slightly higher driving position over a standard octy. Or would you consider a Yeti, also excellent to drive although no where near as practical for space as an octy estate.

Thanks For the  idea of a Scout (had not thought of that) but although the extra height would be good I would very rarely need to use the 4x4 so would it be worth it ?

A 2ltr tdi mk2 octavia would do the job.

I've got an 05 mk1 vrs and 2x 2005 2ltr tdi saloons....one 255k one I use as a hack and my other halfs 210k one she uses for everyday duties and we use for long trips.

Both tdi's have been mega reliable, great on fuel, and the mk2 chassis is much better than the mk1. They can be hustled along at any legal limit (or above) effortlessly and in the real world the 140hp BKD engine is a match for the 1800t, but if it didn't feel enough a plug in tuning box is cheap enough, though ours are both standard, and she's had no problem at all clinging to my vrs boot spoiler up to over 3 figures with a 2 in middle.

The seats are also more comfortable with better adjustment range. Long distance travel hurts her back in my vrs but no issues in the mk2. Her seats in the Elegance model are better trimmed and appear to be holding up better with high miles than my base Ambiante model....and the Elegance is quieter inside but mines not all bad, or there's the luxury of leather in the L&K model if you like cold seats in the morning.

Your comments re your bad back would probably rule out a mk2 vrs, comfy seats but firmer ride, though maybe worth trying one.

We're reluctant to get rid of either of our tdi's as they're such great all-rounders and I'd challenge anyone to find me a better replacement for a couple of k now apart from a later lower mile example but for a lot more money.

The silver vrs above though looks really nice!
