I have a 64 plate 1.6tdi

 

The last couple of days I've noticed that above 1500 rpm in 3rd gear and above the engine/exhaust are really loud, to the point it sounds like there's a boy racer exhaust fitted. I've had the car a year with nothing and it's noticeably much louder.

 

Has anyone had any similar issues and if so was it something simple? or is it going to be a case of taking it to the garage and sucking up the cost?

Welcome.

Best at least go to a Tyre & Exhaust fitting centre and let them put it on their ramp and look / listen to it and quote a price.

Then make your excuses and leave without commiting to anything.

That is if you can not see what has broken / burst.

Its got a hole "somewhere"............often easy to get a wet rag and block the exhaust outlet momentarily and see where its leaking from.
