KYB Announces New OE Partnership with ŠKODA

KYB Corporation is proud to announce they will be an OE supplier of shock absorbers to the new ŠKODA SCALA, their first ever OE partnership with the Czech car giants.

 

KYB will manufacture front and rear shock absorbers from their Czech factory for the SCALA, an all-new 5 door family hatchback released across Europe this year. The SCALA is assembled in the factory in Mladá Boleslav and is already enjoying great reviews across the motor trade press. During a road test with AutoExpress, the ŠKODA SCALA “rode impressively over most surfaces”.

 

ŠKODA joins a long list of worldwide vehicle manufacturers to trust KYB to be the OE shock absorber supplier to their new cars, including many other brands under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. 1 in 5 cars across the globe leave production lines with KYB OE shock absorbers fitted, making KYB one of the biggest suspension manufacturers in the world.

A big part of the Scala's improved ride over the Rapid are the bigger wheels and the longer wheelbase. 195/60R16 tyres (probably fitted to 6J rims) are one of the options that I have seen on the Scala, and this tyre size has a slightly bigger outside diameter than the 205/55R16 tyres often fitted to Golf/Octavia sized cars.

Which country have you seen 195/60 R16 as an option on a Scala?

It is not an option in the UK that i have seen.

So Active, Ambition & Style not the trim / models in the UK and the 195/60 R 16 not a Factory Build Option in the UK, 

just something that someome might fit.

The Tyres that would be suitable if fitting Snow Chains.

Didnt KYB, aka Kayaba, used to make the awful Honda FVQ shocks (fade very quicklys in UK parlance)?

The Scala is approved for use with 195/65R15 tyres fitted to 6Jx15 ET35 rims and 195/60R16 tyres fitted to 6Jx16 ET35 rims. These are the only sizes approved for use with snow chains.

 

Both these options are available from the Skoda accessory brochure. 15" rims are available in steel only. 16" rims are available in both steel and alloy. 16" alloy is available in both black and silver colours.

I think maybe there is a translation issue, that being when someone says available as an option, when it is something that is approved & can be fitted or is available to fit, 

but is not an option when buying a new car.

 

All good to know.

Not that there are many that fit Snow Chains in the UK to drive in the UK, but will need to carry or fit them in some countries where the law will require them to be carried & to be fitted if required.

 

 

 

Starting @ under £14,000 about the right price for them.

195/60R16 tyres fitted to 6Jx16 ET35 rims are officially approved by Skoda for the Scala, as are all the other tyre and rim combinations in that list.

 

Skoda lists 195/60R16 tyres fitted to 6Jx16 ET35 alloy rims (in silver and black colours) in its accessory brochure. Here are the part numbers together with a description:
