Newbie re servicing

Featured Replies

Bought Yeti 2.0 110 BHP Diesel FWD about 6 months ago. Put it in for service. Told it is minor service, basically oil and filter, plus inspection. £179 at local Stealers. When collected car noticed it hadn't been cleaned. I didn't know they would, but expected it.

Paid bill. Later looked at receipt etc. Said cleaned inside and out. It wasn't. One of the checkpoints was expiration date of tyre repair fluid. It was ticked as OK. Actual fluid has June this year on it. So out of date!

I have checked oil level. Looks clean and to top level.

I can't see where the filter is. Would the undertray need to be removed to change the oil filter? It doesn't appear to have been disturbed. I assume old oil is sucked out via dipstick stick tube.

Service interval indicator has been reset, but shows 9400 miles/365 days to next oil change. Why not 10000 miles?

Inspection says 20100m/730 days.

My concern is that receipts say this and that has been checked, but it also says it has been cleaned, when it hasn't. I will obviously be speaking to garage about it, but I am concerned oil filter may not have been changed. How do I check?

Cheers

Brian

Oil filter is under the engine cover, it just lifts off.
But as it's a replaceable element I doubt if you will see if it has been renewed if it was not marked beforehand.

If the Oil is sucked out at a main dealers the sump plug should still be replaced.

If the Sump Plug is on the invoice that should have been replaced.

The 'Free Wash and Vacuum' is very expensive if paying Main Dealer for a Interim Service.

Wash and vacuum taking as ling as the Health Check / Inspection.

Yes - the standard service interval is 15,000 km which translates to 9,375 miles.  These are European cars designed and built by Europeans in metric units.  They add the imperial measures for us Brits because they have to to sell cars in the UK, but underneath the numbers are metric.

Thanks for the replies. Km to miles makes sense.

Did take the engine cover off, but didn't see what i expected an oil filter to look like. But as said if only insert replaced i wouldn't be able to tell.

Ringing garage soon to see what they have to say about wash/vacuum.

Invoice lists windscreen wash fluid, oil filter, oil and sump plug.

The oil filter housing is located under the engine cover...

You can just see it here...

With the cover removed...

As soon as the engine is run the oil will very quickly turn black so checking the oil filter is unlikely to reveal much...

If they've changed the oil then it is highly likely they've changed the filter too.

By the time they've apologised for not washing and vacuuming it, or for not properly checking the tyre inflation kit then I'm sure you could negotiate an attractive partial refund.

These use a replaceable paper filter in a permanent housing rather than a spin-on cartridge filter, perhaps why you didn't spot it.  You may not be able to tell if it has been replaced like the old days (ie a clean new cartridge filter was easy to see) - there may be signs of disturbance of the filter housing and the area around it.
