Hi all 

Can anyone give their opinion from experience of towing with the 1.5?

 

i only plan on towing a small trailer, no massive caravans here.

What sort of weight and is the trailer braked or not?

A small trailer is about same weight as adding one passenger, not going to make that much difference.

Your definition of what constitutes a small trailer must be different to mine. 

Personally I would call a trailer anything up to 8' x 4' and the unbraked max of 750kg as a small trailer. Anything bigger/heavier than that (getting into braked trailers) I would call a large trailer. 

I assume the OPs small trailer is of the upto 750kg unbraked variety. If more than that he may need to be aware of trailer licensing laws and their limits. 

Either way the 1.5tsi should do just fine towing within its plated limits.

I misintepreted small trailer as one of those alloy camping trailers.   

But agree a load will add further weight regardless of if in trailer or car boot 

I tow with the heavier Kodiaq and a pretty big caravan with the 1.4 TSI manual...

Thanks for the replies, yeah it’s just an unbraked camping trailer, up to 500kg. 
I was just interested in people’s experiences of towing with the 1.5. I’m coming from an Octy Vrs diesel with masses of torque. 
 

silver1011....That is impressive! What does that van weight? 

Just shy of 1,400kg (MLTPM).

I tow an Elddis Supreme 482 (Max Weight 1270KG) with no problem with my 1.5 DSG. Depending on conditions I get between 26 and 32 mpg.
