Yeti wing mirror glass issue

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Our passenger side wing mirror glass has come away from the heated baseplate, almost as if the adhesive has failed.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what part of glue to use to refit this, given the heated baseplate.

Cheers

I recently replaced my brothers, on his Mk7 Golf. I suspect the same happened with his glass as there was no sign of damage etc.  Cheap enough and a direct fit, literally less than 1 min.  I bought from this seller on eBay and no issues.  This is for the left/passenger/near-side on a Yeti:

right/driver/off-side:

Happened to me , n/s , I used a thin layer of  the old black bostik sealant, not glue, Its been there for 2 years now, and works fine the glass clears and it is possible to detect the surface being warm, about same level as the o/s mirror!

Thanks for the replies people 😎

I also used tape to fix mine, but this adversely affected the heat transfer.

so I bought a non-OEM replacement off eBay, this also performed poorly in terms of heat generation.

Not cheap, but if your temporary fix affects the heating ability, then I'd recommend a genuine mirror glass, not aftermarket.

Just a thought but would double sided tape be any better than glue?

I've got mine sorted. I figured if I was going to spend any money on glue or tape, I might as well spend the extra and just replace the glass.

So being the northern skin flint that I am, I just used whatever I had in the house, which happened to be original gorilla glue.

Spread thinly enough it hasn't really expanded a noticeable amount, is waterproof and theres been minimal disturbance to the heat transfer to the glass. Invisible and cost free fix.

Again, I must emphasise how thin you must spread the gorilla glue or it will expand too much.

Come on Urrell. You've been on this forum long enough to know the age profile of Yeti owners! Bad eyesight, poor memory and confusion aren't so much disabilities as  minimum qualifications for ownership. (Personally I assume any Yeti driver I see under pension age has been allowed to borrow his dad's car).
