Recommendations on Brakes...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2018 Octavia Vrs tdi 4x4 and I am after some recommendations on new brake discs and pads as mine seem to have worn down by let’s call it enthusiastic driving so I want something a little longer lasting!

however I don’t want to break the bank...!

thanks

Matt

Id just go with pagid discs and pads. They seem to last well on all the cars I have used them on. You can usually get 50% off at eurocarparts so keeps the cost down.

Any of the good brands will work, disks and pads are not meant to last forever. Same as tyres........high performance and long life tend to be mutually exclusive.

My preference is ATE road pads as they have a range of about 20 compounds they match to the chassis. Most other pad makes you get the same compound on a Superb 280 as they do for a Citigo.

I tend to go for Brembo plain road disks or ATE if not available. They are the only ones I have never had runout problems with.

Pagid make some good race pads and some cars really suit the road compound but it is a bit hit and miss on a lot of cars and have not found it suit MQB cars as well as the ATE

Pagid grate brakes and there painted on the non contact area so look fresh for longer

So are Brembo

Pagid do normal spec oe brakes and work fine on the mqb platform. If I remember correctly they were the oem supplier on the mk2 Octy platform. I am mot sure who supplies the brakes on the mk3 as I have been out do the Skoda fold for a couple if years.

Ate and trw are the oe on the mk3 well all the ones I’ve seen .personally I don’t like to see trw on any thing

My 2017 Vrs245 still on TRW original vented discs front and rear plus OEM pads after 29,000 miles. Can't fault them at all IMHO.;)

I didn't think mine were, or at least if they were it didn't seem to offer much improvement to the time taken for them to begin to rust...

Is that what this logo means (highlighted in yellow)?

No aggressive / corrosive alloy wheel cleaners used, and this was my MkIII Octavia Scout after a year <10,000 miles...

It just over the youse I’ve seen all sorts off brands go over the counter . And you see different brands supplying the manufacturers with first day production line parts .And agen Agen you see trw been the ones with the problems even toyota with the landcruiser went to them in later year and ended up with twin pots only lasting 2 years may be 3 .

Perhaps owners weren't pressing the brakes (using the calipers properly) hard enough?:tongueout:

Thanks for all the replies, problem I am seeing on most websites (e.g. euro car parts) is when I put my reg in, I seem to get multiple front and rear disc sizes it seems. For example I see multiple Brembo options at different prices, but no idea which are for my car?.... any thoughts?

Look under your boot mat left  hand side under the carpet there is a sticker with the pr codes for your car and is youse to match what Components specs your car was built with

Unfortunately the front disc PR code is often missing from the boot sticker.

Grab your VIN and try this instead...

Thanks all, final question is how much fluid does the Octavia take? I will be changing the fluid at the same time and from history I purchased 1L and that was plenty for me to have some wastage when sucking it through.... however I have no idea on the Octavia on how much it takes.

Will be using dot 5.1 as it has a higher temp so hopefully will not boil so easy.

Thanks

Matt

The best brake fluids are Dot 4 and for good reason. Unless you specifically need the cold weather performance of Dot 5.1 get Dot 4

A Diesel 4x4 vRS will have 312mm front and 272mm rear

I bought EBC ultimax and ebs green stuff pads, same car as yours.

They are coated with some anti corrosive paint so hub stay black and edge of discs does not rust, as well.

Do you have a link to the ones you bought?

thanks

Best website to get them, but call them first, as there are at least three sizes for front discs:

https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/

With brake fluid do not do dot 5.1 , just change it for £30 at Skoda, they use dot 4.

No point of getting dirty for that kind of money 👍.
