Adding RCA to Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to the forum so please be gentle,

I’ve owned my 2009 elegance 3.6 for around 18 months, and I have to say I love it. So far apart from a very big service, including DSG and haldex, the only things I’ve done is overhaul the suspension with new shocks ball joints and eibach springs.

my question is, is there any way of adding RCA outputs to the standard Columbus. My car has the optional 10 speaker stereo upgrade and I have to say it’s the only big let down about the car, in fact it is rubbish. I’d like to add a small amp and sub so I can turn the bass down on the main speakers, but I can’t workout how to add any form of low level to the head unit.

Any help would be gratefully received before I have to take it to an audio specialist.
Thanks Steve

I had the same problem which at that time I solved by replacing OEM amplifier with aftermarket DSP (Audison Bit Ten D) and amplifier (Alpine PDX-V9) and adding subwoofer to the trunk. However, at that time there were no MIB STD2 PQ units (they were used in Yeti FL from end of 2014). Now I can say that these units work great and deliver outstanding sound comparing to Columbus (RNS510). If you are not tied to playing DVDs and you don't mind missing climatronic visualization then I recommend to find someone with such setup and get your own experience before you make any decision - especially as MIB STD2 PQ units deliver variety of new features (e.g. MirrorLink, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay).

Thank you for your reply, I did think about changing the head unit, the previous owner left 20gb of music on there, which is great, but research has shown I can’t use the upgraded amplifier, under the passenger seat, with any after market unit. Then I’d have to replace all the speakers and add lots of amps, well maybe just the amps. I’m just after a little more clarity, my old focus st170 had a factory sub in the boot and it was amazing, took me back to my teenage 15” subwoofer days. 🙂
