Fault Flashing 4 flashing lights with the car closed

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a problem with the Kodiaq Sportline 1.5 TSI. The car is less than 3000 km.

When the car is closed more than 6 hours approximately, the 4 flashers alone flash, and that drawing that I show in the video comes out.
I have disengaged the battery terminal, so that it does not run out.

If I unlock the car, the error disappears and everything goes perfect. Do you know what it can be?
The boot door is closed well

At that mileage and guessing the age of the vehicle, why are you simply NOT taking it back to the main dealership? It MUST still be under warranty!

Perhaps because he's a long way from the dealer and he wants to check, first, that he's not done something wrong, that he can simply fix?

The official dealership closest to my city gives me an appointment for the workshop within 20 days ...

I had exactly the same thing but it was caused by me.

I added extra lights in the boot.  The lights were LEDs and I added constant current power supplies to limit the current.  The supplies inputs were just in parallel with the boot light.  The supplies were switch mode supplies so they were non-linear in nature.  (this thread is here: )

Once the boot was closed and the car was locked, the dash display and hazard lights did exactly the same thing.

I added a diode between the power supplies and the factory boot lights to prevent my power supply from back-flowing current to the electronic module that powers the factory boot lights.  It fixed the problem.

My theory is:

- the power supplies input filtering capacitors or inductors were feeding stored current back to the car once the LEDs were off and not drawing current any more.  The filters voltage probably decayed below the forward voltage of the factory boot lights so they didn't light and use up the last of the current.

- For some reason, to see if the boot is open, the car checks if the boot lights are on (or the output to turn the boot lights on is enabled).  I would have expected instead it to look for CAN messages but apparently not.

- The voltage was at some indeterminate state (between logic levels) which caused the security system or whatever to thing the boot was open and closed at the same time or something like that.

TL:DR  If you've modified the boot lights, undo your modification.  If not, unplug the boot lights (they just pop out of the trim) and also maybe reseat any connectors to the boot door control module.  Failing that, the boot door switch that detects the boot is shut might be faulty.

Thank you very much, finally someone who has happened. In the end I am going to take him to the official dealership, but the one from the dealership has told me that he does not know what it can be, so I will show him your post.

Thank you very much again!

Ahh! I have the led series lights, I have not made any modifications!

If the car is un-modified i.e. completely factory standard then there is clearly an electrical fault.

This is only something a Skoda dealer can fix, but at least it is covered under the warranty.

The problem you might have is if they plug the car into their diagnostics and there are not fault codes stored. Their response is often to tell you that there is nothing they can do if they can't see the fault. At least having the video helps too, it is now impossible for the dealer to suggest that there isn't a fault.

When you get it fixed please be sure to report back and let us know what the issue was and how it was fixed.

The dealership and workshop I just took is very small. Fear is giving me not to find the fault.

As you say, if they don't see the error in the diagnostic machine, it seems to me that it will take time to give me the car.
I start badly with a new car.
Ok if they solve it I tell you what the fault was.
Thank you!

In my case, it logged no codes while and after it happened.

I suspect it's your door latch if you've not altered the boot lights.  Dealer should clean/adjust or replace it.

Hi, I have already picked up the workshop car ...
According to them ... no fault has come out and they have not been able to see the problem .... the 4 flashers have not blinked again ...

I imagine it would have been fixed by leaving him without a battery for several days. But I don't trust.
I am sure that in a while I will give the decision again ... I will tell you ...

Hmm, there is clearly a fault, as you've been able to demonstrate in your video.

Did you show them the video?

All cars have glitches, but your issue suggests a clear fault.

I think I would have been insisting on a more thorough investigation. Did your dealer even ask Skoda Technical Support in the Czech Republic for advice?

Sounds like they have simply fobbed you off.

I think so.
Yes, I sent them the video, but I think they haven't paid much attention to me. That dealership has a bad reputation ...

I also sent an email to Skoda Spain, but they didn't pay attention to me either.

The error has not reappeared, but it will surely come out someday again.
