move MIB STD2 PQ to an old car

Featured Replies

Hi Pab,

Good day,

My friend bought a VW Amarok and replace the head unit with an Android one. So I got his MIB STD2 PQ head unit.

I connected 12V power supply and 2 speakers for 2 front channels to the head unit. There are some issues as following:

1, It had been running for more than 8 hours but there was no Component Protection happened as I expected. But it is automatically switched off after switched on for 30 mins.

2. There is no back light on the head unit.

3. It is unable to adjust the clock. I didn't find the adjustment on the menu or anywhere.

4. If I want connect this unit to an old car, There is an wire for ACC (the ignition switch of the car), Where should I connect to?

5. Do you offer the adaption cable set of MIB STD2 PQ for normal old car?

Very sorry for the long questions, looking forward to your reply, thanks again.

regards,

Benson Liao

Looks like this should have been a PM to @pab567 - hopefully that'll help him notice you.

You might also want to add what car you're trying to fit the headunit to as you need to make sure the CAN-bus system is compatible.

Hi Langers2k,

Many thanks for your remind. I also want to PM to @pab567 , but mail server return me "pab567 cannot receive messages.".

So I have to try post here.

Bneson

@Liao673 I believe you are doing something wrong as I exchange PMs with others as usual. To be on the safe side I have just deleted some oldest messages.

1, You are on the best way to have it locked with Components Protection. Cumulated time is counted but only when the unit is ON or in STAND-BY and - as you mentioned - it goes OFF after 30 minutes or so.

2. It is decoded from CAN so it will not work if just the power is connected.

3. It is read from instruments cluster so will not work if just the power is connected.

4. This unit does not ACC, all is decoded from CAN.

5. What is the "normal old car"?

Hi,Pab thanks for your reply.

I want to install the head unit to my 25 years old car. Actually it is Mitubish Savring . It is only simple connection to the redio set. If there is no back light from the head unit. That would be very hard to operate in the dark.

Regards,

Benson

Sorry wrong typing ,15 years old car.

Will it even physically fit in the Savring?

I think you're much better off selling the MIB STD2 PQ and buying a 'normal' double DIN headunit with the functions you want. There are plenty to choose from made by Alpine, JVC, Sony etc which won;t be reliant on VW specific CAN messages...

The head unit is belong to my friend, may be one day he will need it once he want to sell his car. My purpose is just to utilize the head unit. I know there are many experts here. Maybe there is kind of cable set has been devoloped for transitional cars. If you say no then I though there is nowhere can find such cable.

The unit can play CD and radio, blue tooth is also workable. That fine with me except I have to power on again every 30 minutes.

Thanks for your advice. Good day to you.

You will need so called CAN emulator like this one but equipped with 52-pins QuadloCk (the one I linked has 40-pins QuadLock).

If your radio ha snot been patched then soon it will be blocked with Components Protection.

Hi pab,

Many thanks for your information.

Just to confirm my conclusion as below,

If the unit connect with the can emulator, then I can get ACC and backlight signal, right?

But the clock inside the unit will start to count and 8 hours later CP will block the unit.

Dear @pab567 , I also can not send you PM, I have bought 5L0 035 680 C, with all functions active, but in process of patching eeprom chip fell apart into 3 pieces. Is this situation still solvable? I live near Poland border, so it may be easier with sending unit. I will be very thankful, if you can help me somehow, because now is device bricked..

Thanks in advance.

I have deleted some messages so you can send me PM again.

Were you able to read EEPROM content or has it broken before you managed to read it?

Just reply you in PM
