Hi folks just want a bit of info/advice.

With my new Octy it has been suggested that I go for the variable service thing, but the choice is up to me of course. Is this better than the services every 10,000 miles? It is quite a long way for us to get to the Skoda dealership and also a bit of hasle as have to sort out courtesy car and go there straight after work two nights in a row (I'm a teacher and although headteacher very good not really the done thing to almost walk out of school with the children), which makes it about an hours drive on top of my normal 40 minute drive.

Had my previous 54 Fabia serviced every 10,000 miles, as I believe the variable service wasn't an option for that at the time (but not quite sure about that mind), so neeless to say no nothingabout variable servicing. Could someone enlighten me please?

I'd stick with variable.

Fixed servicing on the Octavia 2 is still 10,000 miles but doesnt have an inspectiion until two years.

I don't anticipate doing much mileage each year - I tend to use the car primarily at w/es as I go to work by bus. Last year with my old car I only did 5k though I expect to do a bit more now I have a more reliable motor. Some journeys may be 4-5miles in length but most are 10+.

Variable servicing is the way to go if you do longer journeys and I don't think the stealer would recimmend for lots of short journeys or a 5k annual milage - you would not gain anyway as the car would take the type of driving into account and probably call up a service at a lower milage ( and oil is about twice the price)

Variable is definatly better is doing long commutes and higher annual milage, with an average driving style you would expect the car to call a service at around 20k.

Variable service cars not covering the mileage tend to go on time (two years between servicing).

I do at least 15000 miles a year mainly on good A roads. So reading these posts it seems I would be advised to go for the variable servicing. Thanks for your responses.

Well i'll do about 8k this year with lots of town driving so fixed servicing is probably for me then

Also your 3 year warranty is covered with only one visit to the dealer and one

its a lease car. all servicing is included.

If its a lease car then i'd be suprised if the leasing company let you do anything other than variable servicing. Leasing companies often to refuse to pay for fixed.

I've just gone about 27'000 miles between services on my 1.9TDi Octy
