Intermittent misfiring

Featured Replies

0299.😁 Hi , I gather from reading other posts about old high mileage Fabias with three cylinder 1.4 TDI engines that the problem I have is not uncommon .

I have the following error codes .

P019E

P0299

It started with slight misfiring . Enough to cause mild bumps , then misfiring running on two cylinders , serious lack of power . The problem completely solved by turning ignition off and restarting . It would run faultlessly for days at a time . Now engine check light is on all the time and misfiring is constant . There has never been any problem starting at any time .

I have visually checked the Bosch MAF sensor it looks excellent . I can not locate the MAP sensor .

I would like to hear from anyone who has encountered this problem and solved it definitively , and how they did it . Thanks in advance .

I had  a 1.4 Tdi some years ago and mine would just cut out on left handers.Turned out to be badly worn crankshaft thrust washers letting the crank move just enough to take it out of line with the crank speed sensor pick up.A set of new thrusts sorted it.It first happened not long after I putchased the car,and then it took about 18 months to happen again but it wouldn’t restart this time. What happened was,the worn thrust had fell out and damaged the reluctor ring on the crank. My local garage did a great job,I was back onthe road in a day.So check your crankshaft end float ASAP.
