  1. My 2005 Tdi estate did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago and it failed the MOT.I simply replaced both rear calipers after previously freeing them off on a regular basis, they are cheap enough and my local autoshop does a part exchange scheme, job done
  2. In the late 60’s I worked for ZF on gearboxes ranging from F1 Lotus to 6 forwards and 6 reverse huge railway equipment gearboxes, and I can assure everyone that although the majority only had worn out bearings due to huge mileages, gearboxes however are only as good as the their owners,I once stripped a coach box that had a weird oil mixture put in it,and when I removed the lid you could not see the gears as the oil had turned to a mega thick plasticky paste and the gears were turning inside it.Strangely enough there wasn’t that much damage, mostly just worn out bearings, the original fault was that the driver had difficulty changing gear ! I could only assume that the owners had put an additive in the oil to try to help with the gear-changing problem and there had been a reaction causing the oil to turn to glue.So changing oil is not all bad all of the time, and if it makes the owner of the vehicle feel better ,why not ?
  3. I have recently had the same problem,on my 6Y5 it is the OSR door leaking and wetting the carpet in the footwell. It doesn’t feel wet until you press hard down on the carpet and the wetness seeps through.I have the sealant to fix it,but it is a bit too cold for me at the moment 😂
  4. Thanks “Totoro”,I haven’t got a Symphony handbook.I just thought it was strange not to have noticed it over the last 9 yrs.👍
  5. Hello team,I have had my 6Y5 for about 9 yrs.and noticed something yesterday that I have never noticed before. Turned off the engine and was just about to open the door, then spotted the “next track” button on the Symphony radio had a tiny red flashing light in it,never seen this before, anyone know what its for please ?
  6. You do not need the glow plug’s to start the engine until the temperature gets down to 5deg.C anyway.
  7. Blimey, what is this forum turning into.I would prefer lots of VERY quiet power.I just can’t see the point in attracting attention.
  8. On my 1.9 TDi,which has a broadly similar arrangement,it was the support spindle that was worn where it swivels to keep the belt tension correct, letting the pulley go off line a touch.I simply replaced the whole thing.Job done.
  9. Have a look at the wiring near the starter motor, same happened to mine and I thought it had lost it’s gas,but when the aircon man connected his kit to the car it started working. It was corroded wiring next to/ below the starter motor.I simply bypassed the connector block and soldered them together.Worst bit is you have to remove the under-tray to access the wiring connectors.
  10. Don’t I know it ! ! 🤦‍♂️
  11. I eventually purchased one from TPS,and they knocked me a couple of quid off.Hardest job was removing the trim panel off the boot without breaking any of the fittings.
  12. Mine has been broken for the last 9 years I have owned the car.I have searched for one a few times but they all appear to be the same.It never moves so I have given up looking.
  13. The TPS near me won’t sell to the general public ,even though I gave them lots of orders when I was still working.
  14. I have just called the nearest Skoda dealer to me and they are £44.50p.According to his knowledge they are available to order only.Where did you get the price you quoted from?
  15. The ones I have seen are more than twice that price Pete,is that a genuine Skoda part and are they still available from dealers ?
