Its quite interesting driving a dsg and seeing which gears the car itself uses at different speeds. I had nearly always been in too high a gear when driving a manual and often made the engine labour to hold speed or slowly accelerate.

 

It does sound like the 170 car is either faulty or badly affected by the fix though. My 1.6 greenline which had to have the fix as it was a company car at the time was ruined by it in my opinion. Nosier, less torque, increased fuel consumption and doing very noticeable regens every 150 miles or so, which I had never had before with my normal high mileage use. However others have said the 170 is least affected by the fix...?

The gearbox is for the other end of the rev range😁

 

VCDS is to try and find where the reversing sensors are hiding.

I know whats wrong with the engine, it's a diesel!

Nothing wrong with a 170 diesel UNLESS IT HAS HAD THE FIX always found mine very smooth and quiet

This thread seems to have gone off topic somewhat from the original 'reversing sensors' problem; however I may as well continue the latest theme:

 

Could someone please supply FACTS to support that there is something wrong with the 170 engine once it has had the fix, rather than 'hearsay.' My 170 has had the fix on for a considerable time (probably more than two years,) and is a fantastic car - plenty of 'grunt,' returns around 32 genuine mpg towing the caravan  and 45 genuine mpg solo. It has covered 60K miles of mixed driving with absolutely no engine problems (other than items required for the fixed servicing regime.) I always use premium grade fuel in the form of Shell Vpower or BP Ultimate, but can not say if this has really had a beneficial effect on its reliability. I suppose the DPF may 'clog' next week, but who is to say it would not have done so without the fix?

 

I would not hesitate to have another, but await the factual evidence as to why this might not be a good idea.

Trevor M    I don't think you should take to much notice of my very biased exprience. I didn't want or need a diesel, quite the opposite in fact, but I was forced in to getting one for the reason stated above.

I was willing to give it a go and I wish I could have loved it, but I can't again for the reasons above, and in the intervening years the backlash against the diesel has kicked in meaning the depreciation will now kick me while I'm down.

I to get 32mpg with the van on the back and have seen high forties on a long run, which is pretty good given the brick like aerodynamics.

But I've had far from trouble free motoring. 11months in on 40k miles air con pump clutch failure, fortunantly still just in used appoved warranty or could have been £700 plus fitting, next year at 46K miles water pump leaking and no good will from Skoda for the low milage and full S.S.H  plus needed timing belt off to do the job so that was replaced also  that was over £400.

I will now revert to my original stance on diesels,  the ONLY reason to buy one is the economy. If you're doing 30-50k+ a year then its a no brainer but given my  annual milage on both my cars combined is now going to be under 10K  I will not be having another.

Sorry about the lack of "facts" about the 170 but I think all you will get are opinions. I'm clad your enjoying yours, I still think the Yeti is a great car.

Right here's a little how to replace the speaker.

First I must thank Ark for making the other thread where He metions the location of the speaker as without that thread I don't know how I would have found where it was, even the Dealer coudn't help when I asked where it was.

 

You need to pull off the seal around the top of the rear door, then remove the piller trims at the offside rear and the next one along at the back door

The rear one just pulls off (takes some force)

I'm having trouble with photo sizes and editing the above post I will sort it later!

The one near the door has a fixing screw behind the airbag logo, don't worry about the air bag too much as it's in the roof not in the piller.

This then lets you pull down the headlining to get some access, If I was to do this again I would also remove the grab handle above the door as I found  a crease in the headlining after I had finished, I'm hoping this will pull out with time and the heat in the car in the summer.

When you pull down the headlining you can't see the speaker as it's faceing forwards in the hump of the roof, I used a mirror to see it and find out how it was attached .

It;s fixed with the plastic rivets that have a pin through the middle to expand them, I managed to punch these through to release the speaker, but the plastic pins were lost into the hollow body section so on re assembly I had to improvise with some pieces of cable insulation.

 

I'm having trouble with my photo's all being too large so i will add pictures when I've re sized them.

Sorry about this being a bit of a mess I didn't know there was a time limit on editing😕

 

This is the new speaker in place and the old one with the plastic rivet, plus the small pieces of cable insulation I used to replace the the lost centers.

 

I hope this helps others, it's not difficult but very awkward because you can't see what you are doing.
