Front electric windows not working

Featured Replies

Recently found out my front electric windows in my vrs have stopped working. I've tried swapping/cleaning the fuses, the trick with the key in the door, and unplugging and replugging the door loom. After doing the door loom the passenger side window started working (from the passenger door control, still nothing on the dirver side) but not the drivers side. Is it likely I need to replace the drivers side controls? I thought that the passenger controls would not work if the driver switches were dead. All the other controls on the driver door work (mirrors, locking etc).

Yes, the passenger switch will work just fine even if the drivers switches don't.

Are you saying that global open/close doesn't work with the key?

Yeah it does nothing. The key works with the central locking though so I assume it's coded right. Only thing that does anything is the passenger door switch.

Since global open/close works independently of the switches you either have a drivers door loom fault or the drivers window motor which also contains the ECU is kaput.

I'm thinking the drivers door motor. Is it worth attempting to fix myself or am I best off getting a mechanic friend to deal with it?

It's a piece of cake to replace if you can get the door card off ok.
