Central locking

Featured Replies

Hi

the drivers door recently won’t lock/unlock with central locking all the other doors do.  Now no door will lock except drivers door by using the key any ideas on the problem and has anyone experienced this before thanks very much

Drivers door lock needs replacing.

Kinda normal the door lock breaks

The gears/motor inside will give in over time. I took mine apart.

And dont buy a cheap doorlock, i did that and had to mix the original and the cheap one.

There is more metal in the original one, and just plastic in the cheap one. The cheap one lasted for 3 weeks.

It could be a faulty microswitch in the lock. If you can lock the driver side door with the key the fault is probably not mechanical.

Occasionally my driver's door won't unlock on the remote so I use the key.

Like many minor niggles it resolves itself after a day or two so I shrug and reflect on buying a car renowned for such things.

I used a key for forty years or more so using it again is no great hardship, it's a skill easily learned.

Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with vag, I've had issues with an octavia and a golf, it's probably easier just to replace the whole locking mechanism with a new one. The cheapo eBay ones Can be hit and miss as previously mentioned above, had one in the golf that lasted the whole time we had the car but the octavia one never worked at all.

Replacing it is relatively easy as long as you have the spline tools (needed to remove the lock from the door)

There is lots of videos / how to's showing how to fit.

Just bear in mind that if you decide to use a second hand part, it may have the same issue in a short period of time.

Hope this helps.
