Stop/Start - Interesting Error Message

Featured Replies

Well not that interesting but one I'd never seen in 2 years of ownership.

External temperature was around 5c, cabin temp set to 21c with the aircon on.  I'd been driving for around 10 minutes so the engine hadn't fully warmed up and I came to a set of traffic lights where SS would normally kick in but it didn't.

I went into the infotainment system to see what was stopping it, this is what I saw (not verbatim):

Engine needs to be running for air conditioning  (see this one all the time)

Windscreen may fog if engine not running

The latter was definitely new on me, just didn't know my car cared so much about my well being 😚

I had the same the other day, I think there's a temp/humidity sensor and I assume it calculates the dew point as an interlock.

I generally just get 'power consumption too high' though.

More than 16*oC extra asked for for the interior temp compared to the ambient temp.

Even though 21 take away 5 is 16.

I had a 2.0TDI SCR DSG for 3 years and stop / start would work right away from a cold start even when the air temp was around freezing and a cold start.

If i wanted the Stop / Start off it was quicker to just press the A/C button to on than to look for the Stop / Start off button.

Or i could whack up the heating dial to over 16*oC difference.

The start stop is very clever, I assume it uses the adaptive cruise sensor, it detects if the car in front sets off and starts the engine in readiness.  at first I thought it was coincidence and it timed out at the correct time, but the message on the infotainment confirmed the reason.
