Tatty door pulls

Featured Replies

The black rubber covered inside door pulls on both front doors of my Octavia are a right mess.

The thin black rubber outer covering is breaking up and peeling off.

Anyone else had this ?

Car is 15 months old. I think the whole door panel would need replacing. They cost about 120 GBP I think.

Otherwise car is great.:(

My mate's previous gen Golf had this and looked a right mess, but I had hoped VAG might have cured the problem on later models - obviously not :(

Not restricted to VAG cars my dad's subaru had exactly the same thing.

Yep I have this too on my Octy 2 (just over a year old).

Its not in a mess yet but I noticed a couple of days ago that it is starting to peel. Oh well at least it now macthes the peeling trim on the lid of the dash storage compartment.

Superb does this too, you may be relieved to know that Skoda replaced all my door pulls under warranty though.

I like the idea of a guarantee claim if only to bring it home to them but it is a bit pointless if it goes again in another 15 months

Has anyone peeled the lot off ? Might not look so tatty but I'm not sure what it looks like underneath.

Otherwise it looks like black insulating tape I'm afraid. Or red or even yellow.

What would go best with Graphite ?:)

My Vectra 3.2gsi had this problem too!

underneath is horrible shiny plastic that looks really cheap and nasty, in order to stop mine peeling a second time I bought a couple of those seatbelt shoulder pads from tesco (99p each), cut them in half and wrapped them around the handles, they just velcro into place and actually look like they are meant to be there, most people comment on how nice and soft the handles feel!!!

Great initative!

My drivers door handle is now looking quite shabby. Car is 16 months old and done 12k miles. I dont wear rings on my right hand to scratch the handle but sadly it seems that the finish is not holding up.

Now that there are so many octy 2's out there over a year old have many owners on the forum taken this up with their dealers?

Car is booked in this monday for a lube service and I intend to point the door handle out to them. If I was to approach my dealer looking for a year old car and saw the state of ther door handle I would be of the opinion that the overall quality of the interior was a bit cheap and dodgy.

Mine are OK after 12,500 miles..............

I've had the car 10 weeks though :P

My old Primera was the same incidentally, The door pulls peeled away after 6 months.

You'd think they would learn after all these ruddy years.

Every Skoda I have had this being a Fabia, two Octavias and an Octavia 2 have all done this....my new Superb is fine at the mo

My Octy I doesn't have the rubber crud on the handles. Was a reason i liked it over the second hand passat where it was all pealing off.

Just textured hard plastic :)

My mates Fiesta steering wheel has done the same. Great sheets of this rubbery stuff hanging down like wet wall paper.

Sorry to be thick, but what do you mean? I have an Octy II L&K.

Hmmm..

Do you thing seat surgeons could leather trim this bit?

And you'd be entirely correct. My door handles are peeling and the driver's one keeps coming off when i close the door.

My old Passat had this too. I always got accused of wearing sharp rings on my right hand, but as I don't wear rings I think it's a material fault.

Hope my new Octy doesn't do this too.

Good news, Car was in at my local dealer (Thomson and Potter), They have ordered a new trim panel under warranty, no problems . Great service. This is my first Skoda but I now know why there are so many in the area.
