Would you recommend solid dual mass conversion on VRS

Featured Replies

Hi All . My 07 VRs Se has got a noisy dual mass. Ive read that a solid conversion can be done at a considerable saving over the dual mass option . Im trying to save a few quid as you ve probably guessed . The car is standard and ive no plans to increase the power.  Another alternative was i wondered if a good dual mass ever comes up for sale secondhand say if some one upgrades to solid after power upgrades and removes a perfectly good dual mass .  Any advice greatly appreciated .

A quick look around the web...

 - The OEM manufacturers want similar money for a complete clutch kit whether it's DMF or SMF.

 - There are some cheaper options but they all appear unbranded or makes I've not heard of.

It's not worth pinching the pennies, there is very little difference in cost between a new SMF and DMF, most of the cost is in the labour and the clutch. SMF is noisy and really hard on the gearbox input shaft assembly.

Single mass flywheel should only be used when seeking big power

DMF for stock everytime, you would struggle to sell a car on with a SMF
