Mystery objects

Featured Replies

After I took delivery of my new Octavia I found a sealed plastic bag in the drivers side door storage containing 8 black hard plastic objects. They are circular about 1 inch in diameter, look a bit like a saucepan **** on top and on the underside there is a screw like fitting.

The car came with velour floor mats each of which has 2 circular holes at the seat end but whilst the objects would fit the holes there is nothing for the objects to screw into.

Does anyone know the purpose of these objects and/or the purpose of the holes in the velour mats?

Thanks

As far as I know, they screw into the original carpets to hold the car mats in place. Why not give it a try? Our dealer provided free mats which have these screw thingies installed.

Incidentally, which are the best after-market mats? The Skoda ones are no great shakes. Do I recall that Cannon mats were recommended?

Don't these secure the mats to the floor and stop them riding up whilst you are driving?

I have the Skoda rubber mats and they seem good. They cost £22.

i suggest you locate mat correctly then push a thin screwdriver through the carpet ,lift the mat and screw the mat retainer into the carpet ,the secure mat

So the screw part doesn't actually slot into anything - you create your own smaller hole in the carpet and screw it in? What's beneath the carpet if one prods too far?

No need for pilot holes, push down hard and they just screw right in.

The mats that came in mine are carpeted with rubber sections where the grip is needed and they have the dealers name embroidered into them. Shame about that last bit.

Just left mine in loose, they don't seem to move easyer to take out and clean.
