Boot problems

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am a newbie! Seem to have spring a problem tonight 😞 my 2005 MK1 fabia saloon (poor old gal) doesn't want to open her boot. I can manually release it by crawling in to the boot but it won't open by the outside button. I'm not very car savvy and need some help please if someone could point me in the right direction? TIA

Just to rule out problems with the drivers door microswitch which can stop the boot opening, have you tried opening one of the rear doors first and then tried opening the boot?

Drivers door micro switch? I can only open my boot from the actual boot. There is no buttons or anything inside the car or on my key fob to open it. I opened the doors and tried to open the boot but it still won't open 😞

Yes, there is a microswitch inside the drivers door lock unit inside the door. They are notorious for failing and when they fail they often stop the boot from being opened at the switch above the numberplate. If you tried to open a door first and it still won't open then it can't be that, though.

It might be broken wires where they go through the rubber trunking from the car body into the boot lid, or it could be the switch behind the rubber cover on the boot lid, or the boot lock servo motor on the rear panel.

Ok, I will have a look and see what I can do. Are any of them easy fixes?

No, to be honest you'd be better off taking to a decent auto electrician, it's an easy and quick fix for them to do.
