Non standard suspension on Approved Used Rapid SB

Featured Replies

Evening; I purchased my Rapid SB circa ten months ago, a 16 plate 1.6TDi Sport from my local Franchised Skoda Dealership. At the time, i commented to the Salesman that the rear looked a lot lower than other Rapids I had looked at and was told it had sport suspension option. It crashes over  bumps terribly, but put it down to the 17' wheels.

Fast forward ten months, and a friend has just bought an identical car, but the rear is much higher. Mine went in for it's first service today,  so i raised it again. I received a video from the Workshop, within which the technician comments that the springs are non standard aftermarket parts. So essentially the car has been lowered by the previous owner.

Am i being reasonable when i say that having bought an approved used Skoda, i expect it to be factory standard (unless i'm told otherwise), and aftermarket modifications should have been picked up on the approved checks they run through? Picture below of the ride height of my car (blue) and my mates recently purchased Rapid SB for comparison.

Welcome.

The Skoda Approved used car Workshop Checks are supposedly for Safety Checks.

If the suspension is safely fitted, maybe Eibach springs, many would be happy with that.

Especially compared to the Grey car that looks like it is on stilts.

If you want you can ask for the Approved Cars Work sheet from the Work Shop inspection.

They should know who checked the car.

Not sure you would get the springs changed back to standard if that is what you would like to happen.

The OEM part numbers for the standard front and rear springs on the Skoda Rapid Spaceback 1.6TDI are:

front 6R0411105D

rear 1J0511115AM

You can get Lesjofors aftermarket replacement springs on autodoc.co.uk for about £20 each, and Spidan aftermarket replacement springs on ebay.de for about £30 each.

If you want sports springs which are about 15mm lower, you will need the OEM part numbers for those.

Always check the OEM part numbers through a Skoda dealer's parts department using your chassis number or registration plate number.

The best way to search for aftermarket replacement springs is to use the OEM number.

Why? the "Approved used" scheme is a safety inspection, not a "return to OEM".

^^^ Exactly.

The stuff that has been changed in various setting are not put back to 'Factory Settings'.

A used car can arrive to a new owner with a re-map and that is not removed either if nobody is checking for it.
