3rd brake light

Featured Replies

Hey guys. My 3rd brake light works intermittently.  It will work for the majority of the time but then stops. Wiring fault maybe?

If it's anything like mine was it's corrosion of the connector pins on the LED PCB necessitating breaking open the assembly, resoldering and gluing back together.

Replaced mine (same issue) they are prone to internal failure ... new clone part for less than 30quid ... check ebay ... lots of youtube vid how-tos.

Same here. Mine only works intermittently too..............................Only when I press my brake pedal, :tongueout:

It does sound like loose or corroded connection as MicMac mentioned, so I would check any connections before considering buying a replacement......

Estate or hatchback?

The feed for the rear washer on the estate is integrated into the high-level brake light and any leakage will soon find the metal electrical contacts.

It is relatively easy to remove the interior trim which then provides excellent access to the back of the light unit.

I had the same problem just now.

Turned out the plastic "soldering" of the light had cracked open and a fair amount of water was inside. I replaced it with a clone that cost me about 40 pounds.

A fairly easy job, except from refitting the interior trim. Patience needed to guide all the clips into their respective holes.

Just for the fun of it I dried the old LED element and tested it: Still works fine.
