Reset Oil Change Indicator

Featured Replies

Evening,

so I was wondering if there is a way to reset the mileage along with the days until after a oil change.

for example, today I done a oil and oil filter change and fitted a new sump plug.

The oil change due warning has been coming on for a few thousand miles but I hadn’t done 10K yet or hit a year since the last change.

I reset it today via the dash, and in the service menu it says oil change due in 6300 miles or 365 days. Is there is a way to get it back to 10K? Would I need OBDEleven or something?

Thanks.

the number is based on your previous mileage and driving style, I believe, and reflects how many miles you are likely to complete before the next change is due. It will adjust itself if you drive longer distances (like motorway stuff) - at least this is my VAG experience elsewhere.

It should have reset to 9300 miles (15,000km) or 372 days (1yr + 7days). Go back and check you read it right.

I managed to reset my "time to oil change" by accident by quickly pressing the reset button 3 or 4 times while the "oil change due in x days" was present.

I'd just filled up & was trying to reset the trip but reset the oil change counters.

Not sure if it works without the warning message though or exactly how many times you have to press the button but you should be able to do it without a diagnostic tool...

I’ll double check but I’m 99% sure that’s what it said in the service menu.

I think the change in miles or days if you are on variable servicing and I’m on fixed so it should reset to 10K.

Thanks for this I’ll give it a go again tomorrow and see if I can get it to reset to 10K.

So I have tried to reset it again via the set button on the dials at ignition.

It’s resetting the days but not the mileage. Stuck at 6300.

Any other ideas guys and gals?

Are you actually getting to and seeing the "Oil service reset?" message or the "Inspection reset?" message before you press the SET button?

On some cars, i.e. Fabia ii you can't reset the service indicator until the service warning starts to pop up which it starts doing a few hundred miles / couple of weeks before its due.

There is a possibility thats someone's inadvertently programmed it using something like VCDS to 10,000 km instead of 15,000km while trying to reset the service indicator, maybe didn't realise the figures required were in km and not miles   Did you buy the car used? In which case it needs reprogramming with an appropriate tool.

Or just live with it and make a note in your diary when you service it of its mileage/date. After all it is merely an indicator/reminder.

Yeah its telling me its been reset successfully.

As you suggested if its not a fix without VCDS I'll just live with it. It's second hand, had it coming on 4 years now, but only started doing my own servicing from last year.

I may get OBDEleven sometime and could try fix it that way but for now I'll do what you suggest and keep a note of it all when its due.

Cheers.
