Starter motor

Featured Replies

Hi All,

looking for a bit help I’ve had to change my starter motor as I checked all the usual suspects the solenoid wire, fuses earths and so forth. I have a 6 speed gear box and I stupidly ordered a starter not realising the difference in starters.

ultimately I have received a 11 teeth arrangement where the one I have just removed is 10 teeth. Can the 11 teeth work or am I being stupid and should just source a ten tooth starter to match the existing.

if anyone has a part no for ten tooth it would be greatly appreciated and any advice on the above.

thanks

Sorry i cant help with the teeth thing

But I dismantled my starter motor cleaned it all up and reassembled it and it works fine now

11 teeth might work but you're looking at a 10% reduction in starting torque with a similar increase in cranking speed, that's assuming the pitch is the same.

Dont use it, it will graunch & grind away the ring gear, make an awful noise, lose starting torque through friction and possibly stick in mesh of the engine doesn"t fire up.

If you aare unconvinced then go ahead and try cranking it, a couple of seconds will be enough to convince you and unlikely to do any permanent damage.

Thanks guys decided to persevere and track down the correct part no. New part has already been delivered so that’s this saturdays plan!
