Oil extraction via dipstick tube

Featured Replies

As my local dealer is shut, and I've got a warning that my next service is overdue, just, I'm looking to do an oil change myself out in the road.

Yes, I know I can still carry on for a while, but I'm obviously unsure how long the current circumstances will prevail.

I have the use of an oil extraction pump, but a trial insertion of the thin plastic pipe gave a tinny ring hitting something. My question is; is there a baffle plate stopping the pipe reaching the bottom of the sump?

I want to do a quick job, getting the vehicle up in the air with the skid plate off at the roadside will probably invite unwanted comments/action as I have regular patrols round the village asking people to stay inside!!

The bottom of the sump?
Have you checked the level that the pipe goes down against the dipstick length?

Yes, thanks - good idea, but that was my first effort.

Anyway, I'd hung the plastic tube up in the sun to drip dry, and it's now unwound itself and is nearly straight.

Popped it in again, and it goes further and makes a different noise, more like a solid clunk, and it now goes further than the dipstick.

Question self answered, next question - where to get the oil from locally as I've already got a filter strangely !

None of which, unfortunately, are suitable for your car, they are not to 504/507 or even 502/505 spec, look at the entire thread.....

Most look like VW504 / 507 to me.
What ones do you say are not?

The only own brand oil Tesco sells to 504/507 is the 2L bottle for £16.

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/285281570

The ones on offer 4L for £10 are 5w40 with no specification or approvals

https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/285281604

or

5w30 to API SN / CF, ACEA C3

@Roottootemblowinootsoot acknowledged he jumped the gun a bit on this. I even checked the containers when I last went to Tesco to make sure.

The 5w 40 FS is perfect for TSI's on Fixed Servicing.  I have used it for over 8 years.

It is up to the users if they bother about VW Group approval.   They do not care about you or your engine.

As to the 5w 30 to API SN / CF, ACEA C3.

The same applies really.  Users might decide if they want to use or not.

Nothing in Tesco's car oil range that I want, going to have a quick scoot about tomorrow as I only need 4 litres of Castrol Edge - I've found two 1 litre bottles in the compartments by the spare wheel. Filter in transit (post :))

No rush, because what with police patrols, LA patrols etc I won't be going anywhere for some time.

Opie Oils are still delivering, as are Euro Car parts, Jerry.

Hi Graham - didn't see you at senior officials training, Newport as a couple of years ago.

Hope Powys keeps a low Covid profile, I've got a friend in PCC in social work who is really struggling with his case load.

Anyway, if I can't buy locally tomorrow, post it is.

Last course I went to at Newport was the Safeguarding Officer one; that was "interesting"!

Powys is coping at the moment although I know of one case in town, and he's an Ambulance worker! I'm now waiting for a DBS check so I can do Patient Transfers for the Ambulance Service plus Network Rail have asked retired signallers to go back as they are having severe problems in some areas. Awaiting my on-line training from them. Keeping busy making the Midget presentable.

Don't worry, Graham probably already has a motorsport red flag to walk in front of the trains.

I have a Yeti 1.2 TSI,tried to use my Mannsman suction pump recently to do an engine oil change,no chance as the dipstick nozzle diameter was less than the suction hose diameter.Had to resort to old school.Sump plug was easy to reach and the oil filter is located on top of the engine. No problem, did the job in less than 25 minutes.Well done Mr Skoda.Have had my 1.2 DSG for a year and wouldn,t change it for anything else.

The old o-ring did come out with the old filter, right? There's a SNAFU on these where the old o-ring gets left behind, and soon afterwards there are low oil pressure warnings and general panic.
