Central locking via door lock

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, new forum member here, looking for some help and I hope I can describe the situation clearly. Sorry for the lengthy post Octavia mkII 2012.

When unlocking the car manually via the key in the door lock, should it operate the central locking and unlock all doors?

At the moment, locking/unlocking manually via the key lock works as expected and just the same as using the key fob (all doors, electric window operation etc) - however ONLY WITHIN  45 SECONDS of the last lock of the car, or if's left unlocked!

IfI leave the car locked longer than 45 seconds, the key won't unlock the car's central locking (just the driver's door). The red light on the door will sometimes stay on constant when turning the key (suggesting a fault somewhere?) It will respond and try to lock the car if I turned it the other way (as expected). No window operation though and is the same whether deadlocked or not. Key fob works fine.

The reason this has cropped up as I've fitted a keyless entry system (which uses the driver's door lock wires to simulate a key turning the barrel) which works just fine within 45 seconds of locking the door. After this, it fails to unlock (because of the situation described above).

Is this a normal security feature? If so is it something that can be changed via VCDS?

Thanks

At a guess, it's a function of the alarm system, at least based on your description and this section of the owners manual:

How is the alarm system deactivated?

The alarm system is deactivated by pressing the unlock button on the radio remote control. The anti-theft alarm system is reactivated if the vehicle is not opened within 30 seconds after transmitting the radio signal.

The alarm system is also deactivated if you unlock the driver door using the key within 45 seconds of locking the vehicle.

If the vehicle is unlocked by inserting the key into the driver door, the key must be inserted into the ignition lock and the ignition switched on within 15 seconds of unlocking the door to deactivate the alarm system. The alarm is triggered if the ignition is not switched on within 15 seconds.

I think if you turn the key a second time, straight after the first..............first will just unlock drivers door and the second will activate central unlocking.......(I think)

Unfortunately not. The only way to unlock the rest of my car without the fob is ignition on and press the unlock button on the centre console.

Is this how it should be, by design?

Thanks for this, very helpful!

My car doesn't have an alarm, but perhaps the software still goes into 'alarm activated' mode after 45 seconds. There could be an alarm disable option via VCDS....

Bit of a strange feature though, if it is one

My mistake.........I thought it did as I described but I've just tried mine

Key in door only opens drivers door, even twisting twice quickly. Sorry.

And @langers2k knows his stuff.........;)

@langers2k @Tilt thanks for your help both of you! 👍👍

Are you sure you don't have an alarm?

Might be worth adding an autoscan from VCDS if possible...

Hmmm... I don't have a fuse in the alarm slot (no.35). I'm guessing it doesn't come with an alarm as it's a basic, base model (no rear wiper, electric windows front only. Didn't even come with a sunglasses box in the ceiling! 😱)

I'll put a fuse in and see if I can set an alarm off...

I have a ODB 2 Bluetooth which I've used to diagnose faults before. But no error codes are showing atm. Presume a VCDS scan would give me more info?

Thanks

@langers2k 30A fuse in the slot, no alarm.

To test, I waited the 15 seconds after unlocking the car via the door and didn't put the key in the ignition, which should activate the alarm as per manual.

Assuming it's the greenline mentioned in your profile, I think most came with alarms. Actually it looks like it was mostly the greenline estate that got an alarm and I assume yours is a hatch. Weird spec decision by Skoda 😕

If there is an alarm siren installed, it'll show as a subsystem of the BCM (address 09). I've no idea if your OBD reader can tell you this information though ;)

It is indeed a hatchback greenline. 2012. 1.6.

I'll get a VCDS scan done and report back 👍

FYI, managed to adjust the Central Electronics Control Module settings (Byte 6) "Opening via door lock" to Active - car now fully unlocks via the door lock, and the keyless system works perfectly 👌

Thanks for everyone's help
