Yeti. Creating storage space

Featured Replies

After owning 2 Octavias the only area where I feel my Yeti falls short is in dedicated storage areas, the space is there in most cases but it has not been fitted out like the Octavia was presumably to save money.

Having been spoilt with the Octavias I had loads of stuff that I have to carry to be autonomous in this country without breakdown cover as you know it in the UK and nowhere to stash it, I had to get creative.

The areas that I missed from the Octavia were:

Dashtop locker

Under seat storage (passenger seat only on Octavia)

Drivers knee cubby

Big box transmission tunnel & armrest

Spectacle holder on roof console

Ashtray volume with insert removed with cover to hide cards etc.

Rear cargo variofloor

Rear side cargo lockers

Also the load area illumination was rubbish with one single bulb & no illumination above parcel shelf.

I had to replace the dashboard (airbags deployed) so got one with the dashtop locker thrown in, I had already bought one from a breaker if anyone needs one.

The spectacle compartment and the transmission tunnel Big Box & armrest were resolved very cheaply via Ali Express.

The variofloor I modified one from a MK1 Octavia, cheap & plentifull & will also fit a MK2 with little modification, I started a seperate thread but here are a couple of photos anyway which show the plastic storage boxes contained within, you can squeeze a lot more small items in these than loose in the area and they can be lifted out quickly to access my toolkits further forwards or the jack etc.

Continued.

For the underseat storage I again used household plastic storage boxes that could be clipped in place under the seats, be invisible unless you lay down in the footwell, that would slide back & forward with the seat and not hamper the height adjustment, finally they can be removed to rummage through in better lighting, the smaller one is because the car currently has a bluetooth module which I will remove as the new head unit has that function.

You will see that they simply clip into place on the underseat frame rail using 22mm copper pipe clips

The the vacant spaces at the side of the boot were made useable by using plastic cargo nets from Ali-Express, you should also be able to see the 12v LED link lights that I have used to light up the whole area including above the parcel shelf, they come in a string of 10 with 3 bright LEDS on each one and can be used individually, they cost next to nothing.

Just realised that you can just make out a toggle switch and fuse above the storage net on the RH side, the switch is to disconnect the trailer wiring module which adds to the parasitic battery drain and the fuse is the one that protects all the trailer lights, better to have them both accessible and visible.
