Different size caliper guide pins help!

Featured Replies

Hi all, does anyone have a definitive on which pin goes where? I'm talking about the caliper guide pins on a mk1 VRS. Both front and rear calipers have mismatched pairs. I know this is correct, but can anyone confirm if it matters which goes where?  It was totally random on my car, but it's been messed about with, likely by people who didn't give it any thought. My thoughts are that one should be on the leading edge (bottom of rear caliper, top of front) but I don't know which.. I'd assume the one without the rubber on the bottom of the pin should be on the leading edge, but would like confirmation. I'm rebuilding my calipers and would like to put it back together right.

Cheers, Pete

Thank you, I've found these exploded diagrams kind of unhelpful, that's a good example - it only lists one of the pins, whereas each caliper has 2 different ones, only one of which has a rubber...

You win the big cash prize! Yes that's exactly what I have, and also backs up my theory, it's based on the leading pin being the full length solid pin and the trailing being the shorter or thinner pin or the pin with an anti brake shudder rubber. To describe the leading edge of the caliper, imagine drawing an arrow pointing in the dire tion the brake disc turns when moving forward, the leading edge is where the arrow enters.

Great help, thank you!
