Microphone crappy?

Featured Replies

I have an 2015 Octavia RS with columbus mib1 and people are hearing me bad and when my girlfriend talking to me in the car when she drives it i know what they mean.

It´s not like bad reception or so but the quality is poor and "cheap".

In my golf from the same year it´s excellent quality and sounds like talking in the phone and not through BT.

Anyone experience the same?

I suspect this is more to do with whether your MIB system correctly supports the appropriate voice protocol for the GSM network you are using.

A first port of call, is to find out whether your vehicle has any updated firmware available for it.  As its a Columbus unit, you should be very much in luck (see other forums for firmware updates).  See if that fixes things first of all.

The location of the microphone is located in the curtosy light unit above your head - make sure you don't have anything (like dust or dirt) blocking those tiny grills above your head where the internal lights are.  Try blowing out the dust with your breath (do not use a hoover - you may damage the microphone).

If that still doesn't fix the issue, then you may well have a faulty microphone.  I'm afraid it means getting into the headliner, but this is a option of last resort.  Probably a dealer job.

My columbus has the latest firmware so that sorts it out.

And when i changed interior lights to led i saw the mic and it´s clean and nice.

It´s an easy task to switch out the microphone but i wanted to see if someone already done it or swapped out the microphone.

You can tweak the microphone using VCDS or OBD11.
