Air filter box modifications internals smoothed out

Featured Replies

smoothed out the majority of the internal plastic fins, a pair of pliers were used to snap off the fins and then smoothed out with a mini dremil. Results were a lot freeier reving engine and a smoother power delivery ( need to order an K&N air filter and then place on a rolling road for a remap )

I doubt that there are any gains to made by removing the strengthening ribs in the airbox. It may possibly sound slightly different, but "freer revving" is a bit unlikely....

Unless you plan on cleaning and re-oiling a K&N regularly, you'll probably find standard paper filters work just as well (or better) on nearly every normal road car; the gains from a K&N are not worth it, unless you have a particularly high-revving sports car. It's really a triumph of marketing over fluid dynamics - save your cash (unless you just like the extra induction noise).

I assume you are changing the map to get the engine output from the 60PS to the 75PS version, but be aware that the torque figure doesn't really change below 4000rpm. I have the 75PS engine in my Citigo, but it's not often I rev to the point where I get the extra high-end torque. It is achieved by fuelling and ignition timing, so if you like revving the thing, it will use more fuel than the 60PS - still, I'd rather have it than not!  I think if you want more low-end torque, you'd need to change to different profile camshafts (not cheap).

I'm sure we'd all be interested to see the rolling road graphs of "before and after" though for any mods you do....
