Hi, I have an Octavia 2.0 TDI and have a couple of questions about the six speed manual gearbox:

 

1. What is the maximum BHP the gearbox can handle?

 

2. Is the gearbox from the VRS the same or is it beefier?

 

3. What is the maximum BHP the VRS gearbox can handle? (If different).

 

4. If the VRS gearbox if beefier, will it fit in the space the current gearbox is in?

 

I am asking these questions because I am thinking of doing some upgrades such as a full Vortex SportsFlo exhaust system, a K&N cold air intake & a performance ECU with custom map as I only put Shell V-Power in the car.

I believe that all 6 speed manual gearboxes are based on a 02M or 02Q (depending on year?) although there will be many variants with different gear ratios.

 

 

There won't be a maximum power, rather it'll be a maximum input torque. A VW SSP suggests the max for the 02M is 350Nm, not sure about the 02Q.

 

As for the best/most suitable ECU, that's likely to depend what your tuner is more familiar with so they can get the most out of it. It might be worth giving a few tuning companies a ring for ECU suggestions and what, if any, weak points you're likely to hit based on your target power/torque?
