Fabia Windows

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm brand new here so apologies if I get anything wrong. Jumping straight in, I believe someone had a go at breaking into my 2010 Fabia recently as there are marks which suggest that and the drivers door lock started to play up. My Fabia locks and unlocks with a key only. I replaced the locking mechanism, (I'm absolutely not a mechanic but was successful), and it seemed fine although it doesn't have the same clicking sound when you turn the key and seems to be affected if I've locked/unlocked the passenger door after which the drivers door only locks or unlocks itself!

Anyway, main issue is when I unlock the drivers door manually both front windows open fully, this doesn't happen when I go in through the passenger side! Any pointers would be amazing and gratefully received.

I'm aware of others having issues of windows opening by themselves when it's been parked but my car isn't doing that, just opening the windows every time I unlock through the drivers door. Thank you for your help.

The front windows will open if you turn the key and then hold it turned, as a function when wishing to open the windows, prior to jumping into a hot car, etc. They will also do the opposite, when locking the doors via the key, turn to lock, hold until windows shut or partially close.

It sounds to me like you are either holding on to the unlocked position too long or the spring mechanism that returns the key to the upright position in the lock, has jammed or has been fitted incorrectly.

I was unaware that models of this date would have manual only door opening and no remote key fob, though.  The issue with only opening the drivers door after using the key on the passenger side is also a little odd, as I don't have a keyhole on mine. Just a blank cover. I believe there is some sort of keyhole under the cover, for emergencies, but not a normal functioning keyhole. That may well be an intended security function, though.

It may be helpful if you mention the exact model and where you live. (Country, county, etc-not actual address).

Hi mrgf. Thanks for replying and offering some suggestions. It's possible I may have been holding the key in the unlock position for too long as the usual clicks it makes when unlocking aren't always heard so I'll give it a go in the morning!

As for where I am, South Wales Monmouthshire although I'm from the north west of England originally!! The car is a 2010 Skoda Fabia 5 door hatchback 1198cc and is a great car, had it for exactly 3 years and loved it. Thanks again for your help and I'll let you know how it goes.

Good morning mrgf. I made sure not to hold the key in the unlock position earlier but both windows opened. They open and close as you described if I also hold the key in the unlock or lock position and otherwise seem to work okay from the interior controls, and don't open if I unlock from the passenger door! (Nothings ever straight forward I suppose!!)

I wonder if the new locking mechanism is at fault although I'm sure it was doing similar at times with the old mechanism, but it didn't happen every time I unlocked the car? I still have the old one and thought to swap them back just to see what happens!! Any more ideas would be gratefully received!

Cheers

Although its probably not your issue, They do tend to suffer the problem of wires snapping inside the rubber bellows where the door opens. This can affect the central locking, the windows, the mirrors, etc but usually makes them fail to work.
