Fabia Mk1 1.4 MPi camshaft position sensor seal o-ring size ?

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm hoping someone can assist me please.

I'm about to replace the oil pressure switch on the 1.4 MPi engine as it's leaking and I'd also like to renew the camshaft position sensor seal (o-ring) at the same time as it's nearly 20 years old and maybe leaking as well.

Does anyone happen to know the exact size of o-ring I can hopefully purchase off ebay (or the like)? Inner diameter, outer diameter measurements would be useful please.

I done a search on this forum and the only info I can find is 17x2.5mm. Is this correct? Which o-ring material would be best suited for the high temperatures it will be exposed to?

Thank you,

Joe

Regarding o-ring material, the genuine one has a reddish colour, not sure if that helps? https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/047907601-camshaft-speed-sensor-oe-5977.html

I would personally leave it alone. Oil pressure switches tend to leak because the internal diaphragm - which is directly in contact with high pressure pumped oil - starts to fail. Cam sensor isn't dealing with anything more than crankcase pressure, which should be around atmospheric if the breather system is OK.

Thank you both for your concise answers.

This is my first Skoda I'm about to work on and have owned it for less than a week so this is a bit of a learning curve for me.

The oil pressure difference both sensors are having to deal with is very useful. I'll think I'll take the cam sensor out, examine the seal, clean it up and the surrounding area and pop it back in.

Hope the rain stops for the weekend!

Thanks guys and thanks for an excellent forum.

Joe
