Auto Express - Skoda Yeti Concept to Reality

Featured Replies

Very little difference from the concept car, production side mouldings more stylish and removal of the indented tailgate letters very wise.

How cool were the original roof rails though!!!!

Love the original roof rails, though the front on view looks like it has heavy eyelids and it's just about to drop off to sleep.

Yes, an interesting read; thanks for posting the link.  I hadn't realised that the Yeti had two step-dads as well as the original designer.  It's unusual for any design - any product - to retain its essential character through to production.  The short run was a shame as I'm sure that the Yeti will be one of few cars from this period that will still be remembered with a smile in twenty years time.

Without me researching, though, didn't the Yeti just pre-date the Qashqai?  I came to the Yeti from an original X-Trail and can't remember the Qashqai being in the running as a replacement.  While I loved the X-Trail, getting into the Yeti provokes same grin that my Herald 12-50 did when I bought it for £410 in 1966 (I still have the invoice!).

Qashqai released 2006 and went on sale in February 2007

Ah, thank you.  I bought the X-Trail in March 2006; six years later the Yeti offered similar muscle to the X-Trail in a slightly smaller package.  I probably never even gave the Qashqai a thought.

We test drove a Qashqai in 2014 when we were looking for a car to replace my Fabia.
It was impressive, until we had a Yeti test drive

It was the pictures of the blue Yeti concept that did it form me - I told my work mates that I was definitely having one of those! I had a Fabia vRS at the time. James of Allams invited me down when they had a LHD viewing example and on the day you could place an order for a CR170, the deed was done and not a moment's regret ever since.
