2006 TFSI Octavia vRS @ 90k miles - things to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hey!

I'm looking to buy a vRS, and have just seen what looks like a pretty decent price on a 2006 vRS.

I've heard vague rumblings about timing chain tensioner issues etc, and was just wondering what I need to look out for, and whether getting the tensioner replaced immediately after purchase is a good shout? Am I right in saying that a replacement will be to a later, less failure prone design or did I pull that out of thin air?

Anything I generally need to watch for on this year of vRS? I tested a 2010 at 80k and the clutch was slipping like mad, but I assume that's not the norm at such a relatively low mileage.

How long are the turbos generally good for on these?

Cheers!

  • 2 weeks later...

Having got a 2007 vrs estate on 129000 they are great.

My in-laws had it from new and I have had it for the last 7 years and put 60k on it.

Other than routine servicing every year I have only had to do the following:

cambelt replacement (I suppose this is routine!)

egr clean and clean out of inlet Manifold (common issue...it started feeling it was missing on acceleration at around 75k mls)

new battery and new alternator (done recently at 128k)

that’s it...nothing else and it still drives very nicely, unfortunately it’s going to have to go soon as we need a small car now.

look for the sticky at the top of this forum for chain tensioner if it's not been done I would highly recommend It.

turbo can go early or last 200K it really depends on how it's been driven and looked after regular servicing and easy driving the parts can last ages i'm on 115,000 now with original turbo, clutch and DMF with no signs of fatigue.

having a look at certain things like mot history/ what tyres are on the car/ keeping receipts etc. can give you an indication of how the cars been cared for.

you could always post the car on here so people could have a look and advise better
