Estate Model Boot Won't Open

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I feel like I have had terrible luck after my first significant "investment" in a wonderful Skoda Octavia Estate 4x4....

It's my first purchase of a car with a computer, bought second hand so no warranty and within 3 weeks the boots has ceased to function.

What I know;

Won't open with fob (i'm not sure it ever did but am assured it worked when I bought the car)

Rubber button performs no function when pressed

There is no sound of motor or anything trying to operate when rubber button is pressed

The little lights either side of the rubber button don't come on when boot is manually unlocked from the inside

The boot open earning does appear on the dash when the boot has been manually opened

The indicators flash when the boot open button is pressed on the key fob

It happened once and then seemed to start operating again (the button not the fob) but has now ceased to operate again.... which may indicate that it's wires to me - but I really don't have a clue!

Any advice on troubleshooting I can do?

Anything else I could try??

Anything else that operates on that fuse that would also not be working (can't really tell from manual)?

Thanks!!!

You say you bought 2nd hand. Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? If it's the latter then you have something better than a warranty, your car is cover by law.

How old is the car and just to confirm, is it a manually operated or electrically operated boot?

Hi Scot,

it’s electrically operated hence my struggle, if only there were also a manual option!

it was purchased privately, I honestly don’t think the problem existed for the previous owner and is just a case of bad luck for me.

The internal trim panel can be removed from inside & the boot released from the remote actuator.

You would probably need to remove it to make the repair anyway.

I'm going on nothing else but the owners manual - there isn't any obstruction that's preventing it from opening? ( see page 67 )   I suppose the fuse could have blown if you can't hear any electrics working when you press the handle.
