Skoda Octavia 2015 A/C Making me Crazy

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have a Skoda Octavia Vrs 2015.. I changed the compressor, an aftermarket similar to OEM Sanden, in February along with the drier but not the condenser itself. There was improvement in cooling because before that there wasn't any...  but not to the extent of factory default, as it is on the family's Octavia 1.4. I am guessing the Vrs AC has issues due to smoking inside the cabin with windows down in a dusty country and weather hitting 50 C. I dont know... the 1.4 is driven by another person and its got significantly better cooling, and he's not that maintenance type of guy as well.

The AC cools but not enough. I have it set to 3/4th in the evenings and full in the mornings and I sweat in the mornings and become fatigued by evening.

So i thought, why not spray down the foam into the evaporator as seen on youtube, so I removed the pollen filter, the blower and found the hole that leads to the evaporator core (checked with endoscope) and sprayed half a bottle of Mannol foam into the evaporator core area until I can feel the foam reaching my finger through the hole, waited 10-15 minutes and then let the blower run with temp set at heat (after putting back the filter and blower that is). No difference in temperature of air coming out of the vent with the AC on, but I got few new problems after this exercise:

1) I noticed white powder all along the dashboard (window vent was open) and seat

2) after opening and closing vents a couple of times, the center vent dont push air any more. Its coming only from left and right. footwell vent was already not working

3) chrome strip around the center vent started to peel after i ran my hand over the vents to dust that white powder down

Can anyone tell me what that white powder coming out of the vent is? Aluminium Oxide? Evaporator? Whats up with the vents? Have you faced the issue? Is it a dashboard removing repair? Any hints about the cooling problem? The chrome strip has anyone replaced before, is there a kit?
