Anybody tow a caravan (1.6tdi green line), advice?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

on the verge of buying a caravan, I have a 13 plate 1.6tdi green line (it has a tow bar fitted with double electrics so I assume has towed in the past)

has anyone used a yeti 1.6 regularly to tow a light weight caravan?

i know it can legally tow a lightweight caravan but would I be better changing the car which would be a hassle?

we won’t be going that far, probably 2 hour max from home.

just wondering would the 1.6 struggle?

any experiences welcome

thank you

I had two Yeti and towed, Eriba Troll and two Bailey caravans a Ranger and an Orion.

The 2L diesels were very good and allowed safe overtaking on motorways .

The smallest engine I towed with (except for a 2CV and trailer) was a 1.5 petrol a powerful

engine but no low down grunt for long hills. I did once tow with a non turbo diesel which

pottered along at around 40mph and was regularly overtaken by VW campers.

Thanks for reply, that’s why I’m a tad worried but to be honest the caravan will more than likely be down various locations in west wales and will be spending large majority of the time pootling on M4
