is this possible?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Not sure if this is a silly question but here goes....

If I wanted to fit a powered sub (like the Basslink) but didn't want to go through the hassle of powering it from the car battery - could it be powered by a head unit - is it car battery or nothing?

I have seen that some HU have outputs for subs and some (i think Pioneer P77?) allow some of the HU power to go to the sub while the rest goes to the other speakers,

Thanks

Unfortunately not - power outputs from the HU are only low current and intended to switch other equipment on (e.g. amps, electrical aerials, etc.) A powered sub needs to be connected to the battery via a fuse for protection.

Do the vRS have a 12V power socket in the boot? If so, you could use that - not ideal but will be OK for supplying upto 100W.

Not sure if they have 12v in boot but Basslink is 200w or more depending on type of Basslink, alas.

There have been some how-tos posted about wiring up the Basslink from the battery and getting the cable through to the cabin, search the forums.

12v ciggy lighter is nowhere near powerfull enough mate, it needs wiring from the battery as the size of cable and fuse size is massive compared to regula car wiring.
