Whats the best engine to replace my 2011 cave engine with?

Featured Replies

I have had oil consumption issues with has caused my engine to fail, I would like to know what the best compatible engine will be to put in my car instead of the cave engine

Welcome to the forum.

?

How many miles has it done and do you know if the original engine that has gone wrong, and was it rebuilt if an early car, 2011?

Or had a Short Unit / Base Unit replaced already?

What is it that has brought you to the need for a new / replacement engine, is it the  pistons / rings, 1 piston / rings, or valves / head as well?

I would be having the CAVE rebuilt / refurbished, by a good engine builder.

or be looking at getting a CTHE, (one from a car that had rear end damage, or a car that can have the engine started, or one with a guarantee from a breaker.)

so from late 2012, but i would go newer than mid 2013.

Hi

 thanks for the quick response

I bought the vrs with 76,000 miles

Now at 87,085 with the failure

Had massive oil consumption ,nearly that of petrol ,and a boot full of bottles

It is the original engine ( I believe) with no modifications

Cylinder 3 has no compression ,and there is an engine knock

Not sure to the extent of the damage with valves/head ,crank?

But with the read ups, I was looking  at the cthe transplant , what is needed for the conversion ,engine mount and remap of the original / cave ecu?

Your choices are:

1. Rebuild your original engine with the revised oil squinters - rebuild and squinters easily £1500 minimum on an 87k engine

2. Purchase the newer lower mileage CTHE engine which rangers from £800-£1500 which will need also need coded in and labour, unless fitting yourself your probably not gonna get much change back from 2k

I personally would buy a cthe and transplant that its not that hard to do as everything is on the front of the engine and you can use the original mounts would say it would take 2 days for a pair of guys (or girls) One day strip out one day fitting
