Calling on you OPF 245 owners!

Featured Replies

Ok, so my new 245 challenge is perfect in every way... except the exhaust note (oh and plastic oil sump which is just weird IMO but ignoring that), the exhaust note is non-existent, dont get me wrong the fake noise in sport mode is nice and satisfying but not as nice as a real exhaust note... however I also dont want to be antisocial with a loud exhaust, so not sure on my options considering I have an OPF, so:

- What do people recommend for an OPF back exhaust (I know the OPF acts as a sound dampener anyway as the newer 245s by standard are quieter than pre-OPF)

- Resonated or non-res considering the OPF also dampens sound?

I also don’t wish to pay an arm and a leg, Miltek do an OPF back system but for around 1000 I just can’t bring myself to buying it!

Appreciate the help!

Thanks

Won't help with any of your other questions but if you do opt for an off the shelf system, Milltek (and others) generally seem to participate in Black Friday sales and IIRC in 2019 they could be bought at 20% off, which is a good chunk of money on a £1000 exhaust!

Thanks, good to know and I’m in no rush so worth the wait if I can’t find a cheaper alternative!

I would get the BCS with powervalve so you can have it quiet or noisy at a push of a button. Plus the build quality from BCS is second to none. My old exhaust was like a piece of art.

When you say the push of a button... is it coded into the car so in sport mode its louder than in comfort or normal? I don’t want an aftermarket button installed somewhere.

From memory it was a small remote control you keep in the car.

I thought the Power Valve system was the one that was actuated by boost pressure, so the valves opened on high boost but stayed shut on low boost?

It might be and just me confusing systems.

It might seem a daft suggestion, but would an Golf GTI 245 Performance exhaust fit, if the tail pipes are extended?

Something like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK7-5-GTI-PERFORMANCE-EXHAUST-IN-EXCELLENT-CONDITION/124317002388?hash=item1cf1deea94%3Ag%3AKkQAAOSwXYJfSkOH&LH_ItemCondition=3000&autorefresh=true

It looks like the vRS has a resonator and then a silencer on each site after the Y joint. The Golf has a resonator and then 1 silencer, then the 2 tail pipes.

We've got a Golf GTI 245 with the OPF (DKTB engine code) and it is fairly rorty, not quiet as described above.

Now that’s a very good idea - I’m sure a good exhaust company could make it fit if it’s not direct. I didn’t realise the systems were different. I’ll have a look into this, I know it’s a major ask but if you happen to have a pic of the underneath of yours it would be much appreciated, if not I’ll do some digging for pics online.

the 245 with OPF is as silent as my mrs 1.2 litre seat Ibiza, so noise is non existent.
